At the recently concluded Digestive Diseases Week (DDW) 2015, Lachter J et al presented a study (Su1519) in which 40 subjects were assigned to watch a movie detailing colonoscopy preparation following a physician visit. Another 80 subjects were given colonoscopy preparation without the movie. One endoscopist rated the quality of the preparation using the validated Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS).
The result: Patients who saw the movie had significantly better bowel preparation with average BBPS of 7.8 vs. 6.4 (p<0.01).
The authors concluded that the addition of a bowel preparation movie improves bowel preparation scores for colonoscopy.
