Suprep can be used alone or in conjunction with over the counter laxatives like bisacodyl or magnesium citrate. If an over the counter laxative is also recommended by your physician, it is usually used about 1 hour before the bowel cleansing agent. There are 2 main ways to take your bowel cleansing agent: the day before regimen or the split dose regimen.

Why am I continuing to drain liquid and mucus from my rectum after my colonoscopy?
This may happen after colonoscopy especially if you took some bowel cleansing agent a few hours before your colonoscopy. It will eventually stop. If this persists a few days after your colonoscopy, contact your physician.
I am having a repeat colonoscopy because I was not cleaned out enough the first time. As instructed, this time I took 2 Senecot pills bid for the previous 5 days which was effective. However, I completed the first dose of Suprep followed by 32 oz. of water by 5:15 pm and have yet (8:50 pm) to have any results. Should I be concerned? I DO NOT want to have to do this prep ever again and am worried about doing the second round tomorrow morning given the visceral reaction I had this afternoon (nausea, gagging, and shivers).
Call your physician. People react differently to bowel cleansing agents. It takes longer in some people for it to work. If you have nausea/vomiting, you may need to pause, you may need nausea medication or a different prep. Please, contact your physician.
Thanks. I finally started to get results and have an anti-nausea med that I can take before my next round. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
Thanks! I’m doing much better with the second phase of the prep having taken anti-nausea med and sucking on a lemon drop after each sip through a straw. Now I just hope it works to clean me out enough!
